Gastric Emptying Scan
What is the scan for?
The scan sees how quickly your stomach empties after you eat.
What preparation is required?
Patient must have something to eat 3 hours prior to the test and then fast until the test is completed.
What about the injection?
There is no injection. You are given a radio-tracer in a bowl of cereal. There are no side effects, you will not feel sick or tired, you can eat and drink afterwards and drive your car.
What about the pictures?
After you eat the cereal, you lie on the bed for 60 minutes and continuous pictures are taken . These show how quickly your stomach empties.
When do I get the results?
Results will be available the following day after 2pm.
